OMG, me writing here? That's a surprise 8D
After the long wait and a lot of delays, HP6 is finally here. Everybody seems to be reviewing it, and since I'm a so big Potter-nerd, why not joining the party?!
So, I was able to go to watch it today. Dubbed in spanish, sadly...I'm such a purist with those things; I would have preferred to watch a subbed version. But, oh well; the dub was fine.
Since this was just a regular showing, I didn't have the chance to see people in costumes. There were, however, some cute little boys carrying magic wands and Harry-like glasses. I was also surprised to hear during the whole movie really young kids commenting about what would happen later; they had all read the book! And they remembered details even myself had forgotten xD
The worst part of the showing? The beginning. I had to stand that terrible New Moon trailer x_x
Ok xD now the review.
The movie: simply amazing. Visually talking, it had astonishing special effects, and also some very nice scene transitions. The acting was perfect too; here, Ron was the true star of the movie. I was also very fond of Draco's acting, and Slughorn did a splendid job. So, overall, for a standard public, this was a REALLY good movie; you just didn't have time to get bored.
The adaptation: ...and here comes the complaining xD I admit that I've forgotten a lot of details of the book, so I was able to enjoy the most part of the movie without any major complain.
First, the things I liked. My dear Luna!!! It's no mystery that she's my favorite character along with Harry; and I was glad to see that she got a really decent screen-time (I can't say the same for Neville, though...). Although I'd have loved to see some epic Luna-related scenes like the whole Quibbler issue or her commentaries during the Quidditch match, I was satisfied in the end.
Let's also mention me being a happy fangirl with the fact that Tonks and Lupin were actually portrayed as a couple <3 (they are certainly my favorite canon pairing)
The thing I was hoping to see the most was the cave scene; as it's my favorite part of the book. And I wasn't disappointed; the scene was as dark, scary and creepy as I had imagined it to be.
What I liked the most was the trio relationship; the chemistry between Harry, Ron and Hermione worked better as ever in this movie. (although that served to remind me how well Harry and Hermione look together ;_; I suppose I'll never stop shipping them...)
Now, the bad things. Even being favorite scenes of me, I can let pass minor omissions like "Weasley's our King", the Gaunt family story, Bill and Fleur's sidestory, or the funeral (although at least they put the Phoenix; that was a nice touch). Other omissions made me cringe a little, like the almost null investigation about the Half Blood Prince. The focus on lovey-dovey and adolescent stuff made the movie quite amusing and enjoyable to watch, but towards the end I couldn't help but to think that they spent WAY too much time with those scenes; time that could have been used with more important scenes.
There's one removal that disgusted me: the Battle at Hogwarts. No battle at all?! Such an epic scene left out?! Dumbledore's death would have been much more shocking and surprising in a real battlefield...
They better do a good job with the battles in HP7, or else D:<...
EDIT: recently posted. http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2009/7/16/heyman-on-length-of-battle-of-hogwarts-for-deathly-hallows-probably-be-30-minutes
30 minutes? Now that sounds good =D
Don't take me wrong, I enjoyed greatly the movie. But as an adaptation, it could have been better (as always...)
And now, I suppose I'll reread the book; in order to see which other scenes I missed xD
